Bushfire

A Bushfire is a fire that burns in grass, bush or woodland, and can threaten life, property and the environment. Bushfire’s can reach speeds of up to 25km/h, which compared to that of the average person who walks at a speed of 5km/h, you get a real idea of how fast these fires can move. Bushfires naturally occur commonly through lightning strikes.

On the 7^th of February 2009 in Victoria, Australia, the infamous ‘Black Saturday brushfires’ were ignited. There were a number of ignition sources, including lightning. The extreme heat and wind occurring at the time act as catalyst to the catastrophic bushfires. It took fire fighters just over a week to put out the blaze’s sweeping across Victoria. The fire’s claimed the lives of 173 people, and injured a further 414, as well as destroying over 2000 homes.

Environmental conditions after a bushfire render it difficult to survive in without assistance. Polluted air, contaminated water, loss of power, and debris make living conditions very tough.

Comparative Study:

List of Similarities:

• Plenty of Natural Light
• Cross Ventilation (window and door placement)
• Both offer utilities for toileting, sleeping, washing and cooking
• Both offer protection from rain and sun

Lift of Differences:

• Port-A-Bach-Holiday Container is much more compact than GoodEye. Furniture and utilties fold into walls and require setting up to you. Where as Goodeye is less 'cluttered' and only holds neccessities
• Port-A-Bach ventilation is slightly better due to larger openings
• Goodeye container seems less habitable over a longer period of time due to the limited assets and utilities.

Due to the polluted air post bushfire Goodeye Container may be more beneficial to use because it can keep windows and doors sealed, while using air conditioning, which Port-A-Bach doesn't have. However because Port-A-Bach has more Utilities and assets it is more habitable over a longer period of time. Both containers can provide fresh water and electricity (provided you can get access to that in the area).
